Our Why

Obstacles such as awareness, transportation and access to healthcare make it difficult for children and families in low-income communities to receive the critical care they need to maintain long-term positive health. A strong primary care network—beginning with prenatal care and early intervention—helps identify and address health concerns early. Routine check-ups, school-based programs and specialized services like occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and endocrinology support early detection of developmental delays, chronic conditions and obesity. Together, these services create a comprehensive system that promotes long-term health and well-being for children at every stage.

The Need

8.8%

As of 2022, 8.8% of children in Collier Country lack health insurance, significantly decreasing their access to healthcare. The availability of primary care services in low-income or non-English speaking communities, and for those facing complex diagnoses or mental health challenges, is paramount for early intervention and long-term support.

Our Blueprint Partners

We are proud to collaborate with esteemed organizations that exemplify the highest efficacy standards. Together, we are committed to breaking barriers that limit access to healthcare.

  • FSU College of Medicine

The initial partnership with Florida State University’s College of Medicine helped to establish the Isabel Collier Read Medical Campus in Immokalee that continues to operate through Healthcare Network providers. The ongoing SSTRDE (Science Students Together Reaching Instructional Diversity & Excellence) program resides in the Immokalee Middle and High school to train pre-college students to pursue a science or health career.

  • Golisano Children’s Hospital

Lee Health’s Golisano Children’s Hospital will bring occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology services directly to Immokalee. This critical access—made possible through NCF’s investment—will reduce the burden of travel and minimize time away from school and work, ensuring families receive the care they need within their own community.

  • Healthcare Network

NCF’s contributions to Healthcare Network Nichols Community Health Center provided critical medical supplies and furniture along with staff to support pediatric services to be offered to the Golden Gate community. With additional support, Healthcare Network also established a school-based clinic at Manatee Middle School, enabling students to access primary or behavioral care on-site and return to class without missing school days.

  • NCF Pediatric Health Center

By leveraging existing resources and fostering sustainable partnerships, NCF had a unique opportunity to expand essential services in Immokalee through a fully renovated, 3,600-square-foot facility adjacent to the David Lawrence Centers. The NCF Pediatric Health Center has provided essential pediatric services—including behavioral analysis, oral care, nutritional support and first-time access to physical, occupational and speech therapy—under one roof. Centrally located, this “one-stop shop” has eliminated long travel times, making vital care more accessible and convenient for local families.

  • UF College of Medicine

NCF supported the University of Florida’s launch of a Pediatric Diabetes Prevention program that enables families in rural communities to obtain care, virtually, for their children.
